Tiruchirápalli (Trichy)

Tiruchirápalli —Trichy para casi todos— es una ciudad templaria a orillas del río Kaveri, en el centro de Tamil Nadu. Su símbolo es el Rockfort, un templo encaramado en un enorme peñón de granito de más de mil millones de años, con el santuario de Ucchi Pillaiyar en la cima tras subir cientos de escalones tallados en la roca. Al otro lado del río, en la isla de Srirangam, está el templo de Ranganathaswamy, uno de los complejos hindúes en funcionamiento más grandes del mundo, con siete murallas concéntricas y torres gopuram gigantescas. Its symbol is the Rockfort, a temple perched on a huge granite outcrop over a billion years old, with the Ucchi Pillaiyar shrine at the top after hundreds of steps cut into the stone. Across the river, on Srirangam island, sits the Ranganathaswamy temple, one of the largest working Hindu complexes in the world, with seven concentric walls and towering gopuram gateways. Trichy is also an industrial city (home to the big state-owned BHEL plant).
