¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Tabuk? How much do you need per month in Tabuk?

Tabuk works if you already have a concrete reason to be in Saudi Arabia — a contract, NEOM next door, AlUla and the Red Sea coast a few hours' drive away — not if you're shopping for a nomad base. There's no digital nomad visa, the remote-work scene is basically nonexistent, and social life revolves around family, work and the café: no bars, because alcohol is illegal countrywide. In exchange it's cheap by Gulf standards, the streets are very safe, home internet is solid (if you have an iqama to sign up for it), and the climate is odd for Saudi: hot but dry summers and winters that genuinely get cold.

This is the strongest part of the picture, with one catch. STC, Mobily and Zain fiber covers Tabuk's built-up areas well, normal plans run 100–200 Mbps and hold steady, and the Saudi grid is reliable, so blackouts aren't part of your life. The catch: signing up for home fiber requires an iqama or national ID, so as a tourist you depend on whatever the furnished apartment already has, or on mobile data. Mobile coverage is excellent — 5G across most of the city — and a generous data plan carries you meanwhile. WhatsApp calls work (the VoIP block was lifted years ago), but certain sites and apps are filtered, and VPN use is common though legally murky. Watch latency depending on who you work for: Europe feels fine, the US drags, and Latin America is far in every sense — Tabuk is UTC+3, nine hours ahead of Mexico City, so video calls with a Latin American client land at night.

CoworkingCoworking

Straight answer: I can't name a single coworking space operating in Tabuk with any confidence. Saudi Arabia's real coworking market is in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar; in cities like Tabuk what tends to exist is a startup incubator tied to the university or to government SME programs, not a walk-in space with a monthly rate. The realistic plan is café plus home. Saudi specialty coffee culture is huge and genuinely good — outlets, wifi, and very long hours (plenty of places are still open past midnight). Practical detail: the mandatory "singles" and "families" section split was scrapped in 2019, but in a conservative city like Tabuk many places keep the layout, so don't be surprised. If something coworking-shaped does turn up, budget on the order of ≈US$100–200 a month — but confirm it on arrival rather than assuming.

I'd rather not sell you district names here: in Saudi they repeat from city to city, and I don't want to send you to a neighborhood that exists in Riyadh but not here. Orient yourself by anchors, which is how people navigate Tabuk anyway. Contracted foreigners tend to live near Tabuk University (faculty and students, apartments and services around it) and around the armed forces hospital, where much of the healthcare staff clusters. The newer expansions north and west of the city are modern buildings, pricier and quieter; the old center, toward Tabuk Castle and the old Hejaz railway station with its souqs, is cheaper and more local but noisier and older. Plenty of people posted to military facilities live inside compounds — a separate world with its own rules, and not somewhere you get in unless you're assigned there. When you hunt for an apartment, filter by distance to your work and to a supermarket, not by district name.

ComunidadCommunity

There are plenty of foreigners, but almost none are nomads: Egyptians, Sudanese, Syrians, Jordanians, Pakistanis, Indians and Filipinos working in healthcare, education, construction and retail. Spanish-speaking community: essentially zero, don't count on it. "Nomad coffee" meetups don't exist here; you meet people through work, through the mosque if you're Muslim, at the gym, or because another expat introduces you. Day-to-day language is Arabic, and English gets you far less in Tabuk than in Riyadh or Jeddah — fine at the hospital, at hotels and with university-age Saudis, often not at the supermarket or with your landlord. Basic Arabic and a translation app aren't optional. People are genuinely hospitable, though: you'll be offered coffee and dates more often than you expect.

Legal stuff first: Saudi Arabia has no digital nomad visa. The tourist eVisa is 1 year multi-entry with up to 90 days per stay, but only if your nationality is on the eligible list (several Latin American countries are, others aren't — check before you plan anything), and working remotely on it is a gray zone: don't advertise it and don't get paid locally. Premium Residency exists and costs a fortune; the normal route is a company sponsoring your iqama, and without an iqama a lot of everyday things stall (fiber contract, bank account, signing a lease). Second, renting: contracts are usually annual and registered in the Ejar system, and many landlords want the year upfront or in two payments, plus they're wary of anyone without an iqama; if you're coming for months, your real option is seasonal furnished apartments, which cost more. Third, daily life: without a car you'll feel trapped, public transport is minimal, and Careem/Uber run but with a thinner fleet than in Riyadh; to drive you need your home license plus an international permit. Zero alcohol, no pork, and during Ramadan no eating or drinking in public during daylight. Dress conservatively; abaya is no longer legally required for women, but most in Tabuk wear one and blending in makes everything easier. Same-sex relationships are illegal, and that's not a technicality — if it applies to you, think hard. Don't photograph military facilities or their surroundings; Tabuk is a garrison city and this is taken very seriously. And the weather will surprise you: dry ≈36–40 °C summers and winter nights near freezing, with snow in the nearby mountains — many apartments have poor heating or none.
