Seattle

Aprox. 684,451 habitantesApprox. 684,451 people

Seattle is the big city of the American Pacific Northwest, wedged between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, with the Cascade volcanoes (snow-capped Mount Rainier) cut against the sky on clear days. It's the birthplace of grunge, of third-wave coffee (Starbucks started here), and home to Amazon and Microsoft — techy and rainy in equal measure. It has a mild, damp climate famous for gray skies, spectacular dry summers, and an outdoor life turned toward water and mountains.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Seattle? How much do you need per month in Seattle?

Seattle works if you earn in dollars at US rates: very good internet, coffee shops everywhere, serious nature under an hour away, and a real tech scene. It doesn't work if you came to stretch your money — it's one of the most expensive cities in the US and rent eats close to half your budget. Add that October through April is gray and drizzly almost daily, and that the US has no digital nomad visa, so legally you're on delicate ground.

Among the good stuff in the US and a genuine reason to base yourself here: video calls are a non-issue and nobody plans their day around the connection. Xfinity (Comcast) cable reaches basically the whole city; CenturyLink/Quantum Fiber has fiber across much of Seattle but not every street, and Astound (formerly Wave) covers some areas. Budget ≈US$70-80/month for 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Mind the difference: fiber is symmetric, cable gives you fast downloads and much slower uploads — if you live on video calls or push big files, ask which provider serves the building BEFORE you sign, because many buildings only have one. 5G coverage is solid citywide and on the light rail. The weak link isn't bandwidth, it's power: the windstorms from November to January knock out electricity for hours in tree-heavy neighborhoods (West Seattle, Magnolia, the eastern suburbs). Keep a power bank and a phone-hotspot plan B if you're working through winter.

CoworkingCoworking

Precios: escritorio libre ≈US$250-350 al mes, escritorio fijo ≈US$450-600, oficina privada bastante más. Big scene, but expensive and company-oriented rather than built for passing nomads: most desks are paid for by some tech employer. The large chains are here (Industrious, Regus/Spaces and WeWork) downtown, in South Lake Union and Pioneer Square — with WeWork, confirm the location is still open, they closed sites in several cities after the bankruptcy. There are also smaller independent, more community-driven spaces in Capitol Hill, Ballard and Fremont; I won't name those because they open and close often, scout them once you land. Prices: hot desk ≈US$250-350/month, dedicated desk ≈US$450-600, private office well above that. Almost all sell day passes (≈US$30-50) — use one before committing to a month. The very Seattle alternative: cafés. Working from one is completely normal and wifi is decent almost everywhere, but in Capitol Hill and Fremont there's no free table by 11am and outlets are the scarce resource. One more free, underrated option: the Seattle Public Library (the downtown central branch and neighborhood branches) has wifi, tables and study rooms; check hours, they've been cut back.

Si buscas ahorrar, mira Beacon Hill y Columbia City al sur (tienen Link, son más diversos y más baratos) o el U-District, barato porque es de estudiantes y con estación de Link desde 2021.Capitol Hill is the default: the most walkable part of the city, cafés, bars, gyms and a Link station; expensive and loud on weekends, but if you're here three months and don't want a car, this is it. Ballard is the calmer, slightly cheaper version — breweries, a Sunday farmers market, people who stay a year instead of a month; the catch is that getting downtown means a bus, not a train (Link to Ballard is over a decade away). Fremont and Wallingford sit in between: little houses, tech offices (Adobe has a Fremont campus), a good daytime feel, not much nightlife. Belltown and South Lake Union are the new-towers zone next to Amazon: furnished apartments that are easy to rent short-term, a gym in the building, everything walkable downtown — convenient but with no neighborhood soul, and Belltown feels rough on certain streets at night. If you're trying to save, look at Beacon Hill and Columbia City to the south (on the Link, more diverse, cheaper) or the U-District, cheap because it's students and on the Link since 2021.

ComunidadCommunity

Daily life runs in English and you'll actually need it: outside a few southern neighborhoods there's no Spanish-speaking bubble you can function inside. There is a Latino community, but it's south of the city and in south King County — Beacon Hill, South Park, White Center, Burien — not where nomads usually live. Meeting people is easy through activities and unlikely by accident: hiking, climbing, running and cycling groups plus tech events are abundant and easy to join (Meetup still works well here), but turning that into real friendship is slow. There's even a local term for it, the "Seattle Freeze": people are friendly, they say "we should hang out," and never put it on the calendar. It isn't personal, it's cultural. And note: there's barely a digital-nomad scene as such — most foreigners here arrived on a work visa at a tech company, not with a laptop and a tourist stamp.

Legal stuff first: the US has no digital nomad visa. You enter on ESTA (90 days under the Visa Waiver Program, if your country qualifies) or a B-1/B-2 visa, and while working remotely for your foreign employer or clients is what plenty of people do, the law doesn't explicitly cover it and the CBP officer at the airport has the final say: tell them "I'm here to work" and you can be sent home. Carry an onward ticket, the address you're staying at, and a simple honest answer. Second, rent: standard leases are 12 months and require US credit history, a Social Security number, and income of 2.5-3x the rent. Without those, your real options are furnished sublets or mid-term stay platforms, which cost well above listed prices — budget for that, not the number in the ad. Third, the price you see isn't the price you pay: sales tax is around 10% and an 18-20% tip is effectively mandatory, so a US$30 menu dinner lands at ≈US$40. Fourth, healthcare: there's no public system; a doctor's visit without insurance is hundreds of dollars and an emergency can wipe you out. Come with medical travel insurance, no exceptions. Fifth, the weather: October through April is gray, drizzly almost daily, and in December it's dark by about 4:20pm. Plenty of people struggle through their first winter; if low light hits you hard, try a month before committing to six. Summers from July to September, on the other hand, are among the best in the country — and therefore the priciest time to rent. And sixth, safety: the city is generally safe, but downtown around Third Avenue, Pioneer Square and parts of the Chinatown-International District have visible drug and homelessness problems, especially at night. It's not dramatic danger, it's real discomfort: walk those areas in daylight and don't flash your phone.

Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
