Purwokerto

Purwokerto es una ciudad universitaria de Java Central, en la falda sur del monte Slamet, el segundo volcán más alto de Java (más de 3.400 m). Es la capital no oficial de la región de Banyumas, con su propio dialecto javanés, el ngapak (banyumasan), que suena distinto y directo comparado con el javanés cortesano de Yogyakarta o Solo. No es destino de postal: es una ciudad de trabajo, estudiantes y tránsito hacia las montañas. El plato que la define es el mendoan, tempeh fino rebozado y frito apenas hecho, servido con chile. El clima es tropical de tierras algo altas: cálido de día, fresco al caer la noche por la cercanía del volcán.Purwokerto is a university town in Central Java, on the southern slopes of Mount Slamet, Java's second-highest volcano (over 3,400 m). It's the unofficial hub of the Banyumas region, which has its own blunt-sounding Javanese dialect, ngapak (banyumasan), quite different from the courtly Javanese of Yogyakarta or Solo. This isn't a postcard destination: it's a working town of students and travelers passing through toward the mountains. The dish that defines it is mendoan, thin tempeh in a light batter, fried barely done and eaten with chili. The climate is tropical but tempered by altitude: warm by day, cool at night thanks to the volcano.
