Everything revolves around the Jagannath Temple, one of the four Char Dham (great pilgrimages), and every summer the Rath Yatra erupts, the festival where thousands of pilgrims haul giant chariots down the main avenue. Beyond the devotion there's a wide golden beach, salt air and fresh fish. Just outside town lie the Sun Temple of Konark and the vast Chilika Lake.
