Aprox. 270,934 habitantesApprox. 270,934 people
Orlando is the tourism heart of central Florida and the theme-park capital of the world: Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are here, driving the economy and filling the city with visitors year-round. But Orlando is also a real city of lakes, with a downtown beside Lake Eola and neighborhoods with their own character beyond the hotel corridor of International Drive. The climate is subtropical: hot and humid, with near-daily thunderstorms in summer.
Mejor épocaBest time
November to April: warm, dry and with fewer storms. Summer is sweltering and humid, with afternoon rain and hurricane season.
PresupuestoBudget
UU.The parks are expensive (three-figure daily tickets), but food and lodging away from the tourist corridor are more reasonable than on the US coasts.
EntradaEntry
EE. The US requires ESTA (visa waiver) for program countries or a B-2 visa otherwise; arrange it well ahead.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Orlando? How much do you need per month in Orlando?
Orlando works as a base if you want first-world infrastructure without Miami prices: rent sits well below South Florida (though it's close to Tampa and higher than Jacksonville), the internet is excellent, Spanish is an everyday street language, and MCO airport connects you nonstop to much of Latin America and Europe. It works badly if you came looking for nomad prices — in dollars it's expensive next to almost any Latin American city — and especially if you don't want a car: Orlando is built for driving, and without one your life shrinks to three or four neighborhoods. Don't expect a Lisbon- or Medellín-style nomad scene either; nearly everyone here has a local job or is on vacation, not working remotely from a café.

The network isn't the problem here. Gigabit is available across nearly the whole metro for ≈US$50-90 a month: Spectrum (cable) covers essentially everything, AT&T fiber reaches much of Orlando and Winter Park, and newer developments like Lake Nona were built fiber-first. The usual cable caveat applies: very fast download, much more modest upload — fine for video calls all day, annoying if you push video or heavy files. If that's your work, check the exact address for symmetric fiber before you sign, because it varies street by street. 5G coverage is complete, a prepaid data plan runs ≈US$25-50 a month, and carrier 5G home internet is a real fallback if your building only has bad cable. What's fragile isn't the internet, it's the power: Central Florida gets more thunderstorms than anywhere else in the US, and from May to October there's a lightning storm most afternoons, with the occasional brief outage. June through November is hurricane season: Orlando sits inland, more than 80 km from either coast, so there's no storm surge, but a strong hurricane still means flooding and days without power in parts of the metro. Keep a battery backup and mobile data topped up.
CoworkingCoworking
The scene exists but it's modest and scattered — nothing like Miami or Austin. Three things drive it: UCF, one of the largest universities in the country, with its campus at Creative Village downtown; the simulation and defense cluster around Central Florida Research Park next to UCF; and the medical-tech hub out in Lake Nona. What you'll actually find are chain locations — Venture X, Regus and Spaces have sites scattered around the metro — plus a handful of independent spaces downtown, in Winter Park and along the Mills 50 corridor. I won't hand you independent names: spaces here open and close often, so find the one nearest you and confirm it's still operating and check current pricing before you count on it. A hot desk runs about ≈US$150-280 a month and a dedicated desk ≈US$300-450; a small private office costs considerably more. The real alternative, and what a lot of people actually use, is cafés: Mills 50, Audubon Park, College Park and Winter Park have independent coffee shops with good wifi where nobody rushes you, and a specialty coffee runs ≈US$5-7. One local trap: the cafés and lobbies along the International Drive tourist strip are full of families with kids and luggage — you won't get work done there.
The belt just east of downtown is where people who want an actual city live: Mills 50 (the Vietnamese district, the best cheap food in Orlando and independent coffee), Colonialtown, Audubon Park and the Milk District — old houses, human scale, semi-walkable, and the city's real cultural life. Downtown and Thornton Park are the tower option: gym in the building, bars downstairs, and the closest thing to not needing a car, though downtown gets loud on weekends from the Orange Avenue nightlife. Winter Park is the pretty one: Park Avenue, oak-lined streets, Rollins College, genuinely walkable and clearly the most expensive — if the budget stretches, it's the nicest place to live here. College Park and Baldwin Park are the calm residential version, each with a bit of street life of its own (Edgewater Drive in College Park). Lake Nona is modern, clean, fiber-wired and bike-friendly, good if you work in health or tech, but it's pure suburb: without a car it doesn't exist. Two places to avoid as a base: International Drive, a hotel-and-tourist corridor with no groceries and no neighborhood life, and Kissimmee or Celebration if driving 40 minutes for everything would wear you down.
ComunidadCommunity
For a Spanish speaker this is one of the easiest cities in the US: Central Florida has an enormous Puerto Rican community, plus Venezuelans, Colombians and Dominicans, and in Kissimmee, Buenaventura Lakes, Poinciana or along the Semoran corridor Spanish is the everyday language — paperwork, groceries, doctor, all of it. Downtown and Winter Park revert to English as the default, but nobody will blink at your accent. Meeting people is another story: there are steady tech, gaming and simulation meetups around UCF and Full Sail, and very active sports and church groups, but there's no nomad bubble where you arrive and fifty people are already in your exact situation. Most people have families, nine-to-fives, and live a half-hour drive away, so social life gets scheduled — you don't get the casual neighborhood run-ins a walkable city gives you. Plan on doing the legwork yourself for the first couple of months.
The car comes first: it isn't optional, it's infrastructure. SunRail (the commuter train) runs north–south and mostly on weekdays — check the current schedule before you rely on it — and LYNX buses are slow and infrequent, so without a car you lean on Uber and there go your savings. Add that I-4 is one of the most congested and crash-prone corridors in the country, that half of Central Florida moves on toll roads (408, 417, 429, 528) and you'll need a SunPass transponder, and that Florida car insurance is among the most expensive in the US — with no local driving history you'll get ugly quotes. Second, immigration: the US has no digital nomad visa. You enter as a tourist (ESTA for up to 90 days if your country qualifies, or a B1/B2 that usually allows up to six months), and remote work for clients abroad is a gray area worth running past a lawyer; never tell an immigration officer you're "here to work," and don't chase local clients. Third, renting: expect a US credit history check, proof of income around three times the rent, and a twelve-month lease, plus fees almost nobody mentions upfront (application fee, amenity fee, valet trash, pest control) that easily add ≈US$75-150 a month on top of the advertised price. Without local credit you get pushed toward short-term furnished, which costs considerably more and also gets taxed as a transient stay because it's under six months. The good news: a lot of new buildings have come online, and the big complexes negotiate concessions (a free month or two) — always ask. Fourth, the weather: May through October the heat and humidity are draining, with a lightning storm most afternoons, and June through November is hurricane season. Fifth, the bill is never the number you see: add sales tax (≈6.5% in Orange County, ≈7.5% in Osceola) and an 18–20% tip. Sixth, health insurance isn't optional — one uninsured night in the ER can cost thousands. On safety: most of the metro is quiet suburbia, but a few corridors have a bad reputation, notably Orange Blossom Trail and parts of Pine Hills. It's specific streets, not the whole city, so walk the neighborhood by day and by night before you sign. Last, the theme-park fantasy: the Florida-resident annual pass requires proof of residency with a state license or ID, and the non-resident one is expensive — living here doesn't mean getting in free, and since Universal's new park opened, tourist traffic in the south of the metro has gotten worse.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
