It is, above all, Yale's city: the university takes up much of downtown and gives it a student pulse, with free museums and bookshops. It's also where the local coal-fired pizza style ("apizza") was born and, by local legend, the hamburger. Green, walkable, and framed by two ridges of reddish rock, East Rock and West Rock.
