Nashville

Aprox. 530,852 habitantesApprox. 530,852 people

Nashville is the capital of Tennessee and the world capital of country music: they call it 'Music City'. Its Broadway strip is a row of honky-tonks with free live music from noon till the early hours, but the city is far more than a party: legendary recording studios, the hot chicken that was born here, trendy neighborhoods like East Nashville, and Vanderbilt University keeping it lively. It sits on the Cumberland River, with a humid Southeastern climate: hot, sticky summers, mild winters and gorgeous springs and falls.

Costo de vida nómadaNomad cost of living

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Nashville? How much do you need per month in Nashville?

Nashville works well if you need to be in the US for work or family and want a mid-sized city with excellent internet, a genuine music and food scene, an airport with international routes, and a lower cost of living than New York, LA or Austin. It also helps that Tennessee charges no state income tax on wages — which matters if you end up tax-resident here. It works badly if you're expecting Latin-American nomad prices: this is still the US, and a cheap month here costs what two or three months cost in Medellín or Mexico City. And it works very badly if you don't want to depend on a car: public transport is buses only, slow and sparse, and that's the single biggest day-to-day friction of living here.

Nada catastrófico ni cotidiano, pero si tu trabajo no perdona caídas, ten batería y datos móviles como plan B.This is one of the things Nashville genuinely does well. AT&T Fiber covers much of the city, Google Fiber has operated here for years, and Xfinity (Comcast cable) reaches almost everywhere; a gigabit plan runs ≈US$70-85 a month and actually delivers, with low latency for video calls and streaming. Before signing any lease, ask which provider serves THAT building: some addresses have fiber, others only cable, and many new buildings are locked to a single provider. Mobile 5G is solid across the metro on all three major carriers. The weak link isn't the connection but the power grid in extreme weather: severe spring storms and winter freezes knock out electricity by neighborhood, and during the record cold of December 2022 there were brief rolling outages across the region. Nothing catastrophic or routine, but if your job can't tolerate dropouts, keep a battery and mobile data as plan B.

CoworkingCoworking

The scene exists and it's decent, but it's mid-sized-American-city decent: you won't find the nomad ecosystem of Lisbon or Mexico City, but rather coworkings built for local startups, healthcare and tech people, and music-industry freelancers. National chains operate here (Industrious, Regus and similar, mostly downtown and along the Midtown/Green Hills corridor — confirm current locations and prices before showing up), there are independent spaces on the east side — Center 615 in East Nashville is one of the best known and most community-driven — and the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, which also runs events and programs if you want to plug into the local startup ecosystem. Prices: a monthly hot desk runs ≈US$150-250 and a dedicated desk ≈US$300-500 depending on the space; a day pass is usually ≈US$25-40 and most places give you a free trial day. A real and widely used alternative: specialty coffee culture here is strong (Barista Parlor, Crema, Frothy Monkey and dozens more), wifi is generally good and a coffee costs ≈US$5-6 — but several downtown and 12 South spots fill with tourists and you won't find a free outlet.

East Nashville (Five Points, Lockeland Springs, Inglewood) is where most of the young, creative, self-employed crowd lives: porch houses, neighborhood bars, cafés, good restaurants and the least touristy vibe in town. Cross the river and you're downtown in 10 minutes by car. It's the safest bet if you're staying for months. Germantown and The Gulch are the dense, walkable neighborhoods with new buildings and amenities: expensive, very polished, less neighborhood life — but this is where you'll find move-in-ready furnished units with a gym and parking included. 12 South, Belmont and Hillsboro Village sit on the south side near Vanderbilt and Belmont universities: leafy, walkable, full of students and thirtysomethings, and among the best areas for not leaning on a car. Sylvan Park and The Nations, out west, are more residential and slightly cheaper, with a fast-growing brewery and restaurant scene; out there you'll almost certainly need a car. If you want real savings, look at Donelson (near the airport), Madison or Antioch: rent drops noticeably and you pay for it in commute time.

ComunidadCommunity

It's a very sociable city, but the community isn't "international nomad" — it's recently arrived Americans: Nashville has spent years absorbing people from California, New York and Chicago, so almost everyone is new too and open to meeting people. That helps a lot if you arrive alone. The easiest routes in: live music (there are free or cheap shows almost any night of the week, and not only country), running and cycling groups, breweries, gym classes, and coworking or startup-ecosystem events. Daily life is 100% in English, and without a functional level you'll struggle. That said, there is a real and growing Hispanic community, above all along the Nolensville Pike corridor, where you'll find taquerías, panaderías, Mexican and Salvadoran groceries, churches with mass in Spanish and businesses from all over the world (Nashville also has one of the largest Kurdish communities in the US, in that same area). If you want to speak Spanish and eat well, that's the place — the catch is that it's far from the coworking circuit and poorly connected without a car.

What a friend would actually tell you. The car: this is warning number one. Public transport (WeGo) is buses only, with low frequencies and radial routes that all run through downtown; it works for commuting, not for living. If you don't rent a car, budget for daily Ubers or live deliberately in East Nashville, Midtown or 12 South, which are walkable within themselves. The city approved a transit improvement plan in 2024, but those changes take years, not months: plan around what exists today. Rentals: standard leases are 12 months with a credit check and US rental history, which a new arrival doesn't have — so nearly every nomad ends up in corporate furnished housing or a long Airbnb, paying a significant premium (figure roughly 30-50% over a normal lease). There's been a lot of new construction, so big buildings will negotiate: ask about "concessions" (one or two months free). Taxes: there's no state income tax on wages, but sales tax in Nashville is around 9.25%, among the highest in the country, and it isn't included in menu or shelf prices. Add the ~20% tip that is effectively mandatory. Weather: summers are hot and very humid (July and August are genuinely heavy), spring brings severe storms and real tornado risk — in March 2020 one tore through parts of East Nashville, Germantown and Donelson — and in winter a freeze or a little ice shuts the city down because it isn't equipped for it. Noise and tourism: Broadway and downtown are a rolling bachelorette party, with bars and party vehicles blasting music until the small hours. Fun for two nights; don't live there. Visas: the US has no digital nomad visa, and be careful with ESTA — it only applies if your passport is from a Visa Waiver Program country (Spain and most of the EU qualify; in Latin America, only Chile). Everyone else needs a B-1/B-2 tourist visa, with a consular interview and appointment waits that run into months at several Latin American consulates. Working remotely for a client or employer abroad while on tourist status is a gray area: get legal advice before planning a long stay. Health: don't arrive without health insurance. A single ER visit can cost thousands of dollars, and here that genuinely wrecks a budget.

Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
