Miami is the Latin capital of the United States: turquoise beach, pastel art deco, Spanish on every corner and a glamorous, unbridled night. Hot, pricey and a bit of a show, but irresistible — from Wynwood to Little Havana, it's the bridge between the US and Latin America.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Miami? How much do you need per month in Miami?
Miami works if you earn in dollars and earn well: it's one of the most expensive nomad bases in the Americas, and rents barely soften in the off-season. What you get in return is Spanish as an everyday language, fast internet in almost any tower, direct flights to half of Latin America, and a huge community of Latinos building businesses. If you're coming to stretch a budget, this isn't your city — what you'd pay here in rent alone covers a full, comfortable life in Medellín or Mexico City.

Among the best on the continent, with one catch: in many towers you don't get to pick your provider. Symmetric fiber at 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps is available across much of Brickell, Edgewater and Miami Beach for ≈US$60–80 a month, but there's also a lot of cable, which gives you very fast download and noticeably weaker upload: fine for video calls, annoying when you push large files. Several condo buildings have a bulk contract with a single provider and internet is baked into the fee — ask BEFORE you sign, because you can't switch. 5G coverage is complete across the metro area and a prepaid data plan runs ≈US$25–50 a month, so phone tethering is a genuine backup. The weak point isn't the network, it's the power: June through November is hurricane season, and an outage of hours — or days if a serious storm lands — is entirely possible. If clients depend on you, keep a battery backup and a charged mobile data plan.
CoworkingCoworking
Un hot desk mensual ronda ≈US$250–400 y un escritorio fijo ≈US$400–650. A big, pricey scene heavily tilted toward startups, crypto, finance and real estate. There are large flex-office chains in Brickell and downtown (WeWork-style; check the location is still open, that industry has shifted a lot in recent years), The LAB Miami in Wynwood is the classic of the creative and founder scene, and Büro has several locations around the city with a more relaxed vibe. A monthly hot desk runs ≈US$250–400 and a dedicated desk ≈US$400–650. The local trick: many new Brickell and Edgewater towers include a resident work lounge with wifi and meeting rooms — if your building has one, you can skip coworking entirely. Café working is possible, but many of the good ones are loud, short on outlets and expect a steady spend.
Brickell is the nomad default: towers with gyms and work lounges, everything walkable, the free Metromover, and the highest concentration of people also working remotely. Edgewater and Midtown are the slightly calmer, slightly cheaper version, with quick access to Wynwood. Wynwood is where the creative scene and the cafés are, but it's more a place to go out than to live: bar noise and little weekday calm. Coconut Grove is the leafy, quiet option with real neighborhood life, though it puts distance between you and downtown. To cut costs, Little Havana and Allapattah are cheaper and very Hispanic, but with less of that tower lifestyle and often a need for a car.
ComunidadCommunity
It's one of the US cities where you need English the least: in Brickell, Doral, Little Havana or Kendall, Spanish is the everyday language, with huge Cuban, Venezuelan, Colombian and Argentine communities. Meeting people is easy in the sense that there are constant tech, crypto, business and networking meetups, and almost everyone is open to a conversation. The hard part is depth: a lot of people are passing through or in business mode, social life revolves around the gym, brunch and going out — all of it with a price tag — and real friendships take longer than you'd expect. Live in Miami Beach or Wynwood and you'll meet more tourists than neighbors.
The US has no digital nomad visa: you come in as a tourist (ESTA for up to 90 days if your country is in the program, or a B1/B2 that's usually good for up to six months), and working remotely for a foreign employer or clients is a tolerated gray area — but never tell immigration you're "here to work," and don't chase local clients. Second, renting: landlords typically want first month, last month and a deposit at once — three months up front — plus US credit history and proof of income around three times the rent; and in a condo tower there's also an application, an association approval fee and often a one-year minimum lease. Without all that you get pushed into short-term furnished places, which cost a lot more. Third, health insurance isn't optional: one uninsured night in an ER can run into thousands of dollars. Fourth, the weather: June through November is hurricane season, and May through October the heat and humidity are brutal, with a heavy downpour almost every afternoon. And watch the bill: listed prices exclude sales tax (≈7% in Miami-Dade) and tip (18–20%), and in Miami Beach many restaurants already add an automatic service charge and then leave the tip line blank — check before you pay twice. Outside Brickell, downtown and Miami Beach, public transit is weak and you end up depending on a car or ride apps, which aren't cheap here.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person.
