It's famous for two very different things: it's India's largest marble market — dumped white slurry has created much-photographed lunar landscapes — and it's the cradle of the Kishangarh school of painting, with its iconic Bani Thani, sometimes called the "Mona Lisa of India." The old town keeps the Phool Mahal palace beside Gundolav Lake. Desert climate: cool winters, scorching summers and a short monsoon.
