Kandahar

Kandahar es la segunda ciudad de Afganistán y el corazón del sur pastún, en una llanura árida regada por el río Arghandab. Su importancia es histórica y profunda: aquí Ahmad Shah Durrani fundó en el siglo XVIII el imperio que da origen al Afganistán moderno, y su mausoleo está en la ciudad. Al lado se guarda el Santuario del Manto (Kirka Sharif), una de las reliquias islámicas más veneradas del país. Es tierra de huertos —granadas y frutas del Arghandab—, encrucijada comercial hacia Pakistán. Beside it is kept the Shrine of the Cloak (Kirka Sharif), one of the country's most venerated Islamic relics. It's a land of orchards — pomegranates and Arghandab fruit — and a trade crossroads toward Pakistan.
