Hyderabad, capital of Telangana state, is a Deccan city with a split soul: on one side the old Nizam city, with the Charminar, pearl and bangle bazaars and its own Indo-Muslim culture; on the other, Cyberabad (HITEC City), the tech pole where the big software multinationals have offices. It's famous for its biryani, one of India's iconic dishes, and for Ramadan haleem. Telugu and Urdu are spoken, and the dry plateau climate makes it more bearable than other Indian metropolises.
Mejor épocaBest time
October to February, with dry, mild days on the Deccan plateau. Summer (March-May) is very hot and dry; the monsoon arrives around June-September.
PresupuestoBudget
Cheap even by Indian standards. A backpacker manages on USD 15-30 a day; biryani from a good place costs little and fills you for the day.

The modern metro covers much of the city; for the old town, autorickshaws and apps like Ola/Uber are the practical choice. The tech community lives mainly on the west side (HITEC City, Gachibowli).

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Hyderabad? How much do you need per month in Hyderabad?
Hyderabad is one of the cheapest bases in the world for someone working online: cheap, solid fiber, a modern metro, and a real coworking scene, on what covers rent alone in Europe. It works if you're here for the budget and the tech ecosystem (T-Hub, Cyberabad) and you don't mind living in an actual Indian city — chaotic, loud, heavy traffic, and 40 °C-plus from April to June. It doesn't work if you want a Western nomad bubble like Bali or Medellín; the typical foreigner here is a software engineer on a contract, not a backpacking freelancer. And heads up: India has no digital nomad visa, so immigration is the genuine weak point.

One of the city's real strengths. Home fiber is cheap and good: 100–300 Mbps plans for ≈US$10–16 a month with ACT Fibernet, Airtel, or JioFiber, and coverage around HITEC City and Gachibowli is solid. Mobile works well too: 4G everywhere, Jio and Airtel 5G across much of the city, and prepaid plans at ≈US$4–6 a month with 1.5–2 GB a day (several include uncapped 5G), so hotspot backup is always there. Two caveats: Telangana's grid is among India's more reliable, but short outages happen during monsoon storms and heat peaks — tech-belt buildings almost always have a generator, older neighborhoods don't always — and building-provided wifi in high-rises can be mediocre. If you have critical calls, ask about the generator BEFORE you sign, get your own fiber line, and keep a UPS on the router.
CoworkingCoworking
A big scene, but corporate rather than nomadic: most desks are filled by local startups and remote teams from Indian companies, not by people who showed up with a backpack. It's concentrated in HITEC City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Raidurg, where known chains like WeWork, 91springboard, Awfis, and iKeva (the last one Hyderabad-born) operate, alongside T-Hub — the Telangana government's startup incubator, one of India's largest — which is the heart of the ecosystem and where the events worth attending happen. A hot desk runs ≈US$70–130 a month depending on location and brand; a small private office costs considerably more. Upside: there are plenty of air-conditioned cafés with wifi if you'd rather skip the membership.
Gachibowli and Kondapur — where most people working online end up: new towers with a gym and pool in the building, big supermarkets, minutes from the offices. Comfortable, but suburban and short on street life — and the metro doesn't reach here, so you depend on a car or an auto. Madhapur / HITEC City — denser and about as walkable as Hyderabad gets, right next to the coworkings and the tech-belt nightlife, with Raidurg station alongside. Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills — the leafy, good-looking part of town, with the best restaurants, specialty coffee, and bars; pricier, more grown-up, further from the offices, but far nicer to actually live in if you don't need to be in Cyberabad. Kukatpally (KPHB) — the cheap, very local option, on the metro's red line, good if you want to stretch the budget and aren't fazed by a neighborhood where nobody at the corner shop speaks English.
ComunidadCommunity
English gets you through daily life without trouble: in the tech sector, on delivery apps, and anywhere in Gachibowli or Banjara Hills it's spoken and understood. On the street and in markets, life happens in Telugu and the old city's Dakhni Urdu, but you'll never be stranded. Meeting people is easy on the professional side — tech meetups, startup events, a very active developer community, much of it orbiting T-Hub — and considerably harder on the nomad-social side: there's no "expat dinner every Tuesday" circuit like Medellín or Chiang Mai. Spanish speakers are essentially nonexistent; if you want a Spanish-language community, this isn't your city. The foreign community is real but mostly people on corporate contracts, with schedules and families, not loose freelancers.
Immigration is the real problem, not money. India has no digital nomad visa, and the tourist e-Visa doesn't authorize you to work — not even remotely for a client abroad — and it comes with a per-visit stay limit that varies by nationality, so check yours on the official e-Visa portal. In practice plenty of people enter as tourists and work online, but it's a grey zone with real risk, and long stays can trigger FRRO registration. If you're serious about Hyderabad as a base, look into the business or employment visa before you book the flight, not after. The rest: April to June is genuinely brutal (40–44 °C; the city is unlivable outside air conditioning — budget for the AC bill), and June to September brings the monsoon, with urban flooding and impossible traffic. The good months are November to February. Rental deposits are steep — commonly 2 to 6 months up front on a standard 11-month agreement, and many landlords want local paperwork or would rather not rent to short-term foreigners — so negotiate and get the number in writing before you move. Traffic and noise come with the package: distances that look short on the map are 45 minutes at rush hour, and the honking never stops. General safety is good by big-city standards, but at night an app taxi beats an auto or public transport, especially if you're travelling alone. And while the air is better than Delhi's, winter air quality drops enough to notice if you're sensitive.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
