A un paso están Margilan, capital de la seda, y Rishtan, famosa por su cerámica azul.Fergana is the capital of the region of the same name, at the heart of the fertile Fergana Valley in eastern Uzbekistan, ringed by the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Unlike the ancient Silk Road oasis cities, today's Fergana is a 19th-century Russian colonial foundation, with wide tree-lined avenues and an orderly grid. Its real value is as a base for the valley — cotton, silk and ceramics. Just next door are Margilan, Uzbekistan's silk capital, and Rishtan, famous for its blue pottery.
