Denver

Aprox. 682,545 habitantesApprox. 682,545 people

Denver is the "Mile High City": it sits exactly 1,609 meters (one mile) above sea level, on Colorado's high plains right where the Rocky Mountains begin. It's a city of huge sky, dry air and around 300 sunny days a year, with winters that snow but melt fast. A classic base for skiing, hiking and outdoor concerts, with a craft-beer scene that ranks among the best in the United States.

Mejor épocaBest time

Late spring to fall (May–October) for hiking and dry weather. Winter is for skiing the nearby resorts. At this altitude the sun is intense and you dehydrate fast: drink more water than you think you need.

PresupuestoBudget

Craft beer and food are reasonable for the US; lodging and mountain tours are where it gets expensive.

Costo de vida nómadaNomad cost of living

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Denver? How much do you need per month in Denver?

Denver works for you if you earn in dollars and earn well, and what you want is mountains an hour from your door: skiing, trails, a lot of sun, and a clean, easy-to-live-in city with flawless internet. It does not work if you came to stretch your money: it's expensive, almost everything outside the center pushes you toward owning a car, and the US has no digital nomad visa, which makes it one of the most legally awkward bases out there. For a 2-3 month stay it's wildly expensive compared to Mexico City or Lisbon; as a long-term base it mostly makes sense if you already have the right to work here.

This is the US: infrastructure is not the problem. Most of the city has Xfinity (Comcast) cable or Quantum Fiber (CenturyLink/Lumen), with gigabit available across a lot of neighborhoods; ≈US$50-80/month, and in many newer buildings it's bundled into the rent. Outages are rare and tech support actually exists. Mobile coverage is excellent across the metro area on Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T; a data plan runs ≈US$30-50/month, less with budget carriers like Mint or Visible, which ride the same networks. The one real warning: signal drops off fast once you head into the mountains. If your plan is working from a cabin in the Rockies, confirm the connection BEFORE you book — 40 minutes out of town it's a different story.

CoworkingCoworking

A big, mature scene at US prices: hot desk ≈US$200-300/month, dedicated desk ≈US$350-450, private office considerably more. You've got the global chains (WeWork, Industrious) mostly downtown and in the southern metro, plus more characterful local spots in and around RiNo — Enterprise Coworking and Green Spaces are among the known ones — though the scene turns over a lot, so confirm pricing and that they're still open before committing to a month. Café-as-office culture is strong here, but plenty of cafés limit wifi or outlets at peak hours and on weekends, so don't count on it daily. The trick almost nobody uses: the Denver Public Library (the recently renovated central branch) has solid wifi, real tables and air conditioning, for free.

Capitol Hill is where most car-free arrivals end up: the cheapest of the central options, older buildings with character, walkable, cafés and bars at street level. RiNo / Five Points is the trendy one: new buildings, murals, breweries and the densest cluster of coworking spaces; pricier and loud on weekends. LoHi / Highlands, across the bridge from downtown, is the pretty, quieter version: good restaurants, low-rise houses, mountain views, high prices. Baker / South Broadway is the more indie, slightly cheaper alternative to LoHi — very walkable with a life of its own. If saving is the goal, Aurora and Lakewood drop the rent meaningfully, but there you'll need a car or a place right next to a light rail station.

ComunidadCommunity

Daily life runs in English and without it you'll feel isolated fast, though there's a large, long-established Mexican and Latino community on the west and southwest sides (the Federal Blvd corridor, Westwood, Athmar Park), with its own businesses and genuinely good taquerías. The tech and startup scene is solid — Denver Startup Week, in September, is the biggest annual gathering — and meetups run constantly. But set your expectations: Denver is not a nomad hub like Mexico City or Medellín; the typical "remote worker" here is a US employee on a 12-month lease, not someone passing through, so the nomad community itself is thin. What actually works for meeting people is the outdoor life: climbing gyms, run clubs, ski trips, breweries. That's where the friendships happen, not in the coworking spaces.

Four things a friend would tell you before you book. One: the legal side. The US has no digital nomad visa. On ESTA (Visa Waiver) you get 90 days max; on a B1/B2 tourist visa the officer will usually give you up to 6 months, but that's their call, not your right. Under neither can you work for a US employer, and working remotely for a foreign client is a grey area where the border officer always has the final word. Don't plan a year-long base on a tourist entry. Two: healthcare. Without US insurance, a real emergency can cost you thousands of dollars, and many nomad travel policies cover the US far worse than you think — or exclude it outright. Read the policy before you come. Three: renting. Leases are 12 months, with credit checks and income of ≈3x the rent; with no US credit history you'll be asked for a big deposit or a co-signer, which is why most nomads end up on monthly Airbnbs, Furnished Finder or sublets — all pricier. Four: altitude and weather. You're at 1,609 m (5,280 ft): the first few days you'll be short of breath, you dehydrate faster, alcohol hits twice as hard, and the sun burns year-round (yes, sunscreen in winter too). And mind the myth: Denver does not get 300 full days of sunshine — it's closer to 245 sunny days, though it is genuinely a bright city. It can snow from October to May, though it melts fast; spring and summer bring hail that really does dent cars, and summer has high-ozone and wildfire-smoke days. Two practical notes: outside downtown and the light rail corridors public transit gets slow, so a lot of people end up paying for a car or Ubers they never budgeted for; and I-70 into the mountains jams up on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, so "an hour to the snow" in ski season is easily two or three. Finally, the 16th Street and Union Station area has a visible street and fentanyl problem: fine by day, but at night just be deliberate about which blocks you walk.

Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
