It's a port-and-refinery town —the Port of Corpus Christi handles much of the US energy export trade— but what matters to you is the steady wind that made it a kitesurf and windsurf magnet, the sandy beaches of Padre Island, and the fact that Whataburger was founded here and singer Selena grew up here, with her grave and museum in the city. It's flat, spread out, and very much a car town.
