Merkezefendi es uno de los dos distritos centrales de Denizli, en el suroeste de Turquía; en la práctica es la mitad del casco urbano de la ciudad, con su centro comercial y su bazar. Denizli es famosa por su industria textil —toallas y albornoces se exportan desde aquí— y por su gallo, símbolo de la ciudad. Pero su gran carta es la ubicación: está a un paso de Pamukkale, las terrazas de travertino blanco y la antigua Hierápolis. El distrito toma su nombre del santo sufí otomano Merkez Efendi.Merkezefendi is one of the two central districts of Denizli, in southwestern Turkey; in practice it's half of the city's urban core, holding its commercial center and bazaar. Denizli is famous for its textile industry —towels and bathrobes are exported from here— and for its rooster, the city's emblem. But its trump card is location: it's a stone's throw from Pamukkale, the white travertine terraces and ancient Hierapolis. The district takes its name from the Ottoman Sufi saint Merkez Efendi.
