Marvdasht es una ciudad agrícola de la provincia de Fars, en la llanura regada por el río Kor, al noreste de Shiraz. Its fame lies not in its modern streets but in what surrounds it: it's the gateway to Persepolis (Takht-e Jamshid), the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid empire founded by Darius I. Just nearby is Naqsh-e Rostam, with the rock-cut tombs of the Persian kings carved into the cliff, and a bit farther Pasargadae, with the tomb of Cyrus the Great. This is a land of ancient history more than city life.
