Its heart is the vast Naqsh-e Jahan Square, one of the largest on the planet, ringed by turquoise-domed mosques, a palace and a great bazaar. Beautiful Safavid gallery-bridges cross the Zayanderud River. It's monumental, elegant and surprisingly walkable, with a living craft tradition of miniature painting, enamel and carpets.
