Livingstone is southern Zambia's tourist town, on the banks of the Zambezi and a step from Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya, "the smoke that thunders"), one of the world's largest sheets of falling water and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's named after the explorer David Livingstone. It's a base for safaris and adventure sports: rafting, bungee from the bridge over the Zambezi, and the legendary swim in Devil's Pool when the water is low.
Mejor épocaBest time
The falls are fullest February-May after the rains; August-January the flow drops, exposing more rock but opening Devil's Pool. The dry season (May-October) is best for safari.
PresupuestoBudget
Activities (rafting, bungee, park entry, scenic flights) add up; staying and eating in town is more reasonable than the luxury river lodges.
EntradaEntry
Revisa tu caso.Zambia requires a visa for many nationalities, available online or on arrival; the KAZA UniVisa covers Zambia and Zimbabwe (handy for crossing to see the falls from the other side). Check your case.
An international airport near town. Taxis and hotel transfers run to the falls and the bridge; the Zimbabwe border (Victoria Falls town) is right across.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Livingstone? How much do you need per month in Livingstone?
Livingstone isn't a nomad base, it's a tourist town of under 200,000 people that lives off Victoria Falls. It works if your job survives unreliable internet and power and you want the Zambezi ten minutes from your door; it doesn't work if you need calls to land on time every single day — Zambia runs scheduled power cuts and you feel them here. Living like a local is cheap; the moment you touch the tourist circuit it stops being cheap.

There is fibre in town (Liquid, Zamtel and a couple of local ISPs) but coverage is street by street: some Highlands and centre addresses have it, others don't, and no listing will tell you the truth — check the specific address before you sign. Typical home plans run 10-30 Mbps and cost far more than the speed suggests. Latency is the quiet problem: traffic routes out through South Africa, so budget for roughly 200 ms to Europe and more to the Americas — fine for calls, annoying for anything interactive. MTN and Airtel 4G in town is decent and worth carrying as a backup, but it thins out fast once you leave Livingstone. The real killer isn't censorship — Zambia doesn't block the internet and you won't need a VPN to work — it's power. Zambia runs scheduled load shedding whose severity tracks the water level at Kariba: in dry years it has been brutal, in wet years it eases, so ask locally what the current schedule actually looks like rather than trusting last year's story. When the grid goes, your router goes and often the ISP's own equipment goes with it. Nobody works here without a UPS or inverter, and even then some days you just lose.
CoworkingCoworking
There isn't one. I don't know of an established coworking space in Livingstone and I'm not going to invent one for you. In practice you work from your accommodation or from a café or lodge bar along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road and the river — quality varies wildly and few of them survive a power cut. The real move here is to choose where you live by its internet and its backup power, not by the room: several lodges will negotiate a monthly rate that includes both, and that ends up being your "coworking". Ask to test the wifi during a load-shedding window before you commit to a month.
Highlands is where most foreigners who actually live here end up: quiet residential streets, walled houses with yards, ten minutes from the centre. The Riverside / Sichango side and the Nakatindi Road corridor run toward the falls along the Zambezi — lodges, a few long-stay houses, beautiful and isolated (and this is where wildlife walks at night). The centre along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road is the walkable option: banks, Shoprite, restaurants, tour operators, and the most noise. Dambwa, Maramba and Linda are the big local townships — much cheaper, but that's where people live, not where foreigners land, and services are patchy.
ComunidadCommunity
Small and tourism-shaped: rafting and safari guides, lodge owners, pilots, plus NGO and mission people. It's easy to meet them — everyone drinks in the same handful of bars and lodges — but it rotates with the season and half of them leave when the tourist months end. English is the official language and everyone in town speaks it, so you'll never be stuck (on the street you'll also hear Lozi, Tonga, Nyanja and Bemba). There is essentially no Spanish-speaking community and no nomad meetup scene: social life happens through the tourism crowd or not at all.
Four things a friend would tell you. One: the power. Scheduled load shedding is part of life in Zambia, not an occasional glitch, and it gets worse in dry years when Kariba is low — budget for an inverter or a battery and treat any month without one as a gamble on your income. Two: malaria. Livingstone sits in the Zambezi valley and is a malaria zone, worst in the November-April rains; sleep under a net, use repellent, talk to a doctor about prophylaxis before you come, and know that serious medical cases get sent to Lusaka or Johannesburg, so insurance with evacuation cover is not optional. Three: money and paperwork. The kwacha has lost a lot of ground and inflation is high, so a rent agreed in kwacha today may not mean the same in six months — put the terms in writing and expect landlords to want several months up front. Zambia has no digital nomad visa and its entry rules have changed repeatedly in recent years (including visa waivers for some nationalities), so confirm your own case and your allowed stay directly with immigration rather than with a blog; the KAZA UniVisa is worth asking about if you'll be hopping to Zimbabwe, but it has been suspended and reinstated before, so check that it's actually being issued. Four: this is a small tourist town with wildlife in it. October heat is brutal, the falls are at their thinnest roughly September to December, elephants and hippos genuinely cross the Nakatindi Road area at night, and walking the centre alone after dark is not a good idea.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
