Helwan (Ḩalwān) es una ciudad industrial al sur de El Cairo, sobre la orilla este del Nilo, hoy integrada en el Gran Cairo. Con el tiempo se volvió un polo de industria pesada, con siderurgia y cementeras, y sede de la Universidad de Helwan.Helwan (Ḩalwān) is an industrial city south of Cairo, on the east bank of the Nile, now part of Greater Cairo. In the early 20th century it was an elegant spa town thanks to its sulphur hot springs, and it keeps the Japanese Garden of Helwan from that era, along with the historic Helwan Observatory. Over time it became a hub of heavy industry, with steel and cement works, and home to Helwan University.
