Es una ciudad tranquila, de bazar y montaña, buena base para conocer el norte iraní menos turístico.Gorgan is the capital of Golestan province in northeastern Iran, wedged between the humid Caspian forests and the Turkmen steppe. It was once called Astarabad, a caravan crossroads between Persia and Central Asia. The climate is surprisingly green and rainy for Iran: a few kilometers away grow the Hyrcanian forests, a remnant of temperate jungle listed as a World Heritage Site. It's a calm town of bazaar and mountain, a good base for exploring Iran's less-touristed north.
