Gonbad-e Kāvūs

Gonbad-e Kāvūs está en la provincia de Golestán, en la llanura del Turkmen Sahra, al noreste de Irán y cerca de la frontera con Turkmenistán. La ciudad debe su nombre y su fama a una sola cosa monumental: el Gonbad-e Qābus, una torre de ladrillo del año 1006, de más de 50 metros y planta estrellada, considerada la torre de ladrillo más alta del mundo y declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. The city owes its name and fame to one monumental thing: the Gonbad-e Qabus, a brick tower from the year 1006, over 50 meters tall with a star-shaped plan, regarded as the tallest brick tower in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Around it lives a strong Turkmen community, with its own language, carpets and horse-riding culture.
