No es un destino de postal, sino un centro de mercado con clima mediterráneo y veranos muy calurosos.Aydın sits in the valley of the Büyük Menderes — the ancient Maeander river — inland in Turkey's Aegean region. It's an agricultural city best known for its figs (incir): the Menderes plain is one of the world's great fig-growing areas, and also yields olives and cotton. Above town lie the ruins of ancient Tralleis, and half an hour away, near Sultanhisar, is the ancient city of Nysa. It isn't a postcard tourist stop but a market town with a Mediterranean climate and very hot summers.

To reach Nysa or the valley villages, a dolmuş (shared minibus) or car works best.
