Asiut es la mayor ciudad del Alto Egipto, sobre la orilla oeste del Nilo, a mitad de camino entre El Cairo y Luxor. No es una ciudad de postal turística pulida, sino un Egipto profundo, agrícola y menos visitado.Asyut is the largest city of Upper Egypt, on the west bank of the Nile, halfway between Cairo and Luxor. In antiquity it was Lycopolis, and for centuries it was the terminus of the Darb al-Arba'in caravan route that brought goods and slaves up from Darfur. Today it's a farming and university center with one of Egypt's strongest Coptic Christian communities. It's not a polished postcard city but a deep, agricultural, less-visited Egypt.
