Antakya

Antakya es la antigua Antioquía, una de las grandes ciudades del mundo clásico, hoy capital de la provincia de Hatay, en el extremo sur de Turquía junto a la frontera siria. A orillas del río Orontes (Asi) fue cuna del cristianismo primitivo: aquí los seguidores de Jesús fueron llamados cristianos por primera vez. Es una ciudad de mezcla profunda —suní, alauí, cristiana, judía— y de una cocina legendaria. El terremoto de febrero de 2023 devastó gran parte del casco histórico; la ciudad se reconstruye, y visitarla hoy es también un acto de acompañamiento.Antakya is ancient Antioch, one of the great cities of the classical world, now capital of Hatay province in Turkey's far south, next to the Syrian border. On the banks of the Orontes (Asi) river it was a cradle of early Christianity: here the followers of Jesus were first called Christians. It's a city of deep mixture -Sunni, Alawite, Christian, Jewish- and of legendary food. The February 2023 earthquake devastated much of the old town; the city is rebuilding, and visiting today is partly an act of solidarity.
