Wałbrzych es una antigua ciudad minera del carbón en la Baja Silesia, al pie de los montes Sudetes, en el suroeste de Polonia. Its mines closed in the 1990s, and it has been reinventing itself around its industrial heritage and its crown jewel: Książ Castle, the third largest in Poland, perched above a wooded gorge. It also drew world attention with the legend of the 'Nazi gold train' hidden in its tunnels. A mountain city of working-class past and forest landscapes, off the usual Polish tourist circuit.
