Tokushima

Aprox. 267,345 habitantesApprox. 267,345 people

Tokushima is the capital of the prefecture of the same name, in northeast Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's four main islands. The city spreads over the Yoshino River delta and is presided over by Mount Bizan, reached by a ropeway with bay views. But what makes Tokushima famous is Awa Odori: Japan's largest traditional dance festival, which fills the streets with dancers every August. It's also a gateway to Shikoku's 88-temple pilgrimage and the Naruto whirlpools, a little to the north.
