Tapachula es la gran ciudad del sur de Chiapas, en la región del Soconusco, casi pegada a la frontera con Guatemala y al pie del volcán Tacaná. Tapachula es un cruce de rutas —comercio, café y migración centroamericana— más que un destino de postal, pero su entorno de volcán, ruinas y cafetales es genuino.Tapachula is the big city of southern Chiapas, in the Soconusco region, almost on the Guatemalan border and at the foot of the Tacaná volcano. This is hot, humid lowland, ringed by coffee, cacao and banana plantations climbing the sierra's slopes; many coffee estates were founded by German immigrants in the late 1800s. Tapachula is a crossroads — trade, coffee and Central American migration — more than a postcard stop, but its volcano, ruins and coffee-country setting are the real thing.
