Pita Kotte forma parte de Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, la capital oficial de Sri Lanka —sede del Parlamento— dentro de la gran conurbación de Colombo. Es más un barrio institucional del área de Colombo que un destino en sí, pero carga con siglos de historia cingalesa.Pita Kotte is part of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the official capital of Sri Lanka —seat of Parliament— within greater Colombo. The name "Kotte" comes from the medieval kingdom that had its fortress here (15th century), and "Pita Kotte" means the "outer" Kotte, as opposed to the walled inner Kotte. Today it's a residential and administrative area on the shore of Diyawanna Lake, where the Parliament complex designed by architect Geoffrey Bawa rises on an island. It's more an institutional district of the Colombo area than a destination in itself, but it carries centuries of Sinhalese history.
