¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Phitsanulok? How much do you need per month in Phitsanulok?
Phitsanulok is a provincial capital in Thailand's lower north: genuinely cheap, well connected (train and bus to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, a small airport with Bangkok flights, Sukhothai an hour away), and home to Naresuan University, which keeps the place alive and rentals cheap. It works if you want to stretch your money hard, set your own hours, and don't mind being one of very few foreigners around. It doesn't work if you want a nomad scene: there's no remote-work community here, English barely exists off campus, and coworking is not part of the landscape. Add that from February to April the agricultural burning season can make the air genuinely bad.

It's one of the city's best features. Home fiber from the big carriers (AIS, True, 3BB) reaches downtown and university-area apartments for ≈US$15–25 a month, with hundreds of Mbps down — upload is much lower, as usual in Thailand — and plenty stable for video calls. Mobile 4G is solid across the city and 5G covers much of the urban core, though coverage thins out as soon as you head into the rural districts. Power cuts happen but are short and usually tied to rainy-season storms; if you keep fixed hours with Europe or the Americas, keep a battery for the router and phone as a backup. Watch out in older student buildings: "internet included" is sometimes weak shared wifi rather than your own fiber line — ask for a speed test before you sign.
CoworkingCoworking
Be honest with yourself: there's no coworking scene here. Phitsanulok isn't Chiang Mai or Bangkok, and I can't point you to an established space you can count on; if one exists it'll be small and cheap, but confirm on arrival rather than planning around it. What there is plenty of are cafés with decent wifi and outlets around Naresuan University, downtown and in the malls, full of Thai students working for hours; a ≈US$1.50–2.50 coffee buys you a table all morning. The university library and those cafés are the realistic plan — your own apartment desk is the other.
Tha Pho, the subdistrict around Naresuan University, is where you'll find the widest supply of cheap studios and apartments, plus cafés and food at all hours; it's the closest thing to a "newcomer" area, even if the newcomers are mostly Thai students from other provinces. Downtown Mueang Phitsanulok, along the Nan River near the night market and Wat Yai, has the most life, restaurants and errands within reach, and it's where the few foreigners tend to live: English teachers and the odd retiree. The area around the train station is handy if you travel often and has very cheap older apartments, though noisy. And the area near Central Plaza is the bet if you want newer buildings with decent AC and a supermarket close by, without spending much.
ComunidadCommunity
There's no nomad community here, and it's best to assume that from day one. Foreigners are few and scattered: English teachers in schools and at the university, the odd retiree married to a Thai partner, international students at Naresuan. A Spanish-speaking community is basically nonexistent. Organized meetups and nomad events, likewise. What does work is the usual Thailand playbook: the gym, muay thai classes, the temple, your regular cafés, and northern-region expat Facebook groups, which tend to be more active than anything in person. Daily life runs in Thai; off campus and outside a couple of hotels, English falls away fast, so learning the basics and leaning on a translator app stops being optional. People are warm and curious, but friendship gets built by repetition, not by event.
Burning season, roughly February to April, is the big warning: northern Thailand fills with agricultural smoke and PM2.5 can sit at genuinely bad levels for weeks. If you have asthma or kids, plan to leave those months or buy an air purifier before they sell out in town. Add extreme heat in March–May (40 °C is not unusual) and heavy rain from May to October, with the Nan River running high and occasional street flooding. On rentals, the norm is a 6- or 12-month contract with one or two months' deposit; month to month costs noticeably more and shrinks your options, so negotiate and get everything in writing. On the visa side, this is not a city where things get sorted in English: the provincial immigration office handles 90-day reports, but for any visa matter — the DTV for remote workers included — confirm current requirements with the official source before you come, because Thai rules change often. Safety: calm; the real risk is motorbikes and traffic, not crime.
