Muzaffarabad

Muzaffarabad es la capital de Azad Cachemira, la parte de Cachemira administrada por Pakistán, y está encajada en la montaña donde se juntan los ríos Neelum y Jhelum. Esa confluencia define la ciudad: agua verde-azulada, laderas boscosas y un ambiente de valle himalayo. Dos fortalezas históricas vigilan el paso, el Fuerte Rojo (Rutta) y el Fuerte Negro (Chak), a orillas de los ríos. La ciudad quedó devastada por el terremoto de Cachemira de 2005 y se ha ido reconstruyendo desde entonces. Hoy es sobre todo la puerta de entrada al valle de Neelum, uno de los tramos de montaña más bellos de Pakistán. That confluence defines the city: blue-green water, forested slopes and the feel of a Himalayan valley. Two historic forts guard the crossing, the Red Fort (Rutta) and the Black Fort (Chak), on the riverbanks. The city was devastated by the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and has been rebuilding ever since. Today it's above all the gateway to the Neelum Valley, one of Pakistan's most beautiful mountain stretches. The climate is mild in summer and cold with snow in winter; permits are needed to move around the region.
