This is a land of forests, extinct volcanoes and bitterly cold winters. Its great draw is the surrounding nature: Jingpo Lake (Jingpohu), a huge volcanic barrier lake with the Diaoshuilou waterfall, and the so-called Underground Forest, volcanic craters filled with trees. The city itself is an industrial and rail hub of the northeast, useful as a base for exploring that volcanic country.
