It was one of Germany's textile capitals — nicknamed the "Rhenish Manchester" — and today is better known for its football club, Borussia. The city formed from the merger of Gladbach and Rheydt, so it has two centers. It's no first-tier tourist destination, but it holds a Romanesque abbey on the hill and one of the country's most distinctive art museums.
