Está en Schleswig-Holstein, al norte, cerca del Báltico y del balneario de Travemünde.Lübeck was the "Queen of the Hansa," head of the Hanseatic League that ruled Baltic trade for centuries — and it still shows. Its old town, on an island wrapped by the river Trave, is a UNESCO World Heritage site: a red-brick Gothic ensemble with seven spires on its skyline. You enter through the Holstentor, the leaning medieval gate that's on every postcard and once graced the German banknote. It's also the city of Thomas Mann and the Buddenbrooks, and the home of Niederegger marzipan. It sits up north in Schleswig-Holstein, near the Baltic and the seaside resort of Travemünde.

Winter is cold, grey and windy, but the Christmas market and marzipan have their charm in December.
