How much do you need per month in Londres?
London works if you earn in strong dollars or euros and what you want is network, events and a city where everything happens: it's probably the best place in Europe to build a career, and the internet and transport are genuinely first-rate. As a base to stretch your budget it doesn't work: rent eats half your income and the rental market is hostile to anyone without a UK credit history or payslip. If you're after "cheap city with good wifi", this isn't it; if you're here for the people and the work, few places beat it.

Internet y señalInternet & signal
Aquí no vas a sufrir. You won't suffer here. Home fibre is cheap by London standards (≈US$30-45/month) and much of the city now has real FTTP: with Community Fibre or Hyperoptic it's normal to get 100-500 Mbps symmetrical, and plenty of newer buildings get gigabit. One warning about Virgin Media: download speeds are excellent but it's cable, so upload is far slower than download — if you live on video calls or upload big files, go for symmetrical fibre. Mobile 4G/5G coverage (EE, Vodafone, Three, O2) is solid citywide and several stretches of the Underground now have signal, though not the whole network. No power cuts, no censorship. The two genuine caveats: if the building is old and only has copper you can end up with a mediocre line — always ask which providers reach that exact address before signing, not the area in general — and café wifi is saturated by mid-morning, so don't rely on it for calls that matter.
CoworkingCoworking
The scene is huge and fairly corporate: London probably has more coworking square footage than any city in Europe. The big, easy-to-find chains are WeWork, The Office Group (TOG), Fora and Huckletree, clustered around Shoreditch, Old Street, King's Cross and Southwark. A hot desk runs from ≈US$300 at an independent neighbourhood space to ≈US$500+ at a central chain, and a private office climbs fast. To spend less, the realistic play is a day-pass membership or an indie space in Hackney, Peckham or Walthamstow: noticeably cheaper and better suited to freelancers. The free option everyone uses: borough public libraries and the British Library at St Pancras — get there early for a seat with a plug (and note the British Library reading rooms need a free Reader Pass).
Hackney (London Fields, Dalston, E8) is the heart of the creative-nomad crowd: good coffee, cafés where nobody rushes you off your laptop, nightlife within walking distance. Shoreditch and Old Street is where the tech scene and most of the coworking sit, but you pay for that in rent and weekend noise. South of the river, Peckham and Brixton give you more space for your money, incredible food and a properly mixed crowd — the trade-off is a slower trip north. And if budget rules, look northeast: Walthamstow (E17) on the Victoria line and Leyton (E10) on the Central line, both with Overground nearby, noticeably cheaper rent and a real neighbourhood feel.
ComunidadCommunity
Meeting people is very easy; making close friends, less so. There are meetups for everything (tech, startups, running, languages) almost every night, and in a city where over a third of residents were born abroad, nobody blinks at you being foreign. There's a real Latin community — largely Colombian, Ecuadorian and Brazilian — historically centred on Elephant & Castle and around Seven Sisters/Tottenham; be aware, though, that both landmark markets (the old Elephant & Castle shopping centre and the Seven Sisters Latin Village) were demolished for redevelopment and traders were scattered, so the community is still here but less concentrated than older guides suggest. That said, the language of everyday life and work is English, no exceptions. The actual culture shock is different: Londoners book plans two or three weeks out, most socialising happens in the pub, and winter — dark by four in the afternoon — empties the streets. If you don't actively push, you can spend months in a city of nine million feeling lonely.
The number one problem isn't the price, it's getting a place to live at all. A standard tenancy means income verification (agents typically want annual income around 30x the monthly rent), previous landlord references, a UK credit history, often a UK-based guarantor, and a deposit capped by law at 5 weeks' rent — and plenty of landlords simply won't accept remote foreign income. That's why most nomads end up in SpareRoom-style rooms or short furnished lets, which cost more per month. The rental reform passed in 2025 (Renters' Rights) is being phased in and changes several of these rules, so check what applies on the day you sign. Second: the UK has NO digital nomad visa. As a visitor you can work remotely for your overseas employer or clients during your stay (6 months max, no taking UK work or UK clients), and since 2025 almost everyone entering visa-free needs an approved ETA before flying. Among Latin American countries the difference is big: Mexicans, Chileans, Argentines, Brazilians, Uruguayans, Costa Ricans and Panamanians enter visa-free (ETA only), while Colombians, Peruvians, Ecuadorians, Bolivians, Venezuelans, Cubans and Dominicans do need a visitor visa arranged in advance. Confirm yours on gov.uk in the month you travel, not on hearsay. Also watch the 183-day mark — it can trigger UK tax residence. Two smaller but real things: phone snatching by bike and moped is a documented problem in central areas — don't walk with your phone out on Oxford Street, in Soho or around Westminster — and the grey winter with darkness at 4pm floors more people than admit it.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person.
