Costo de vida nómadaNomad cost of living
¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Krabi? How much do you need per month in Krabi?
Krabi works if you want serious nature (climbing, kayaking, islands) on a low budget and you don't mind that there is basically no nomad scene: here you work alone or alongside a handful of foreigners, not in a hub. Living is genuinely cheap — around US$750 a month is frugal and US$1,500 is comfortable — and Thai fiber is fast and cheap, so internet isn't the problem. The rest is: no public transport (you depend on a scooter), Ao Nang empties out and half shuts down in the rainy season, and if you need people, networking or real coworking, Chiang Mai, Bangkok or Koh Lanta will serve you far better.

This is Krabi's best news. Thailand has some of the cheapest fiber anywhere: in Krabi Town and Ao Nang you get home plans of 300 Mbps or more for around US$15-22 a month, installed within days if the building is already wired. Mobile 4G coverage on the mainland is solid (5G in the built-up areas) and works fine as a hotspot backup; note that dtac merged into True, so brands and plans have shifted. The weak spots are real: in Railay and Tonsai (boat access only) infrastructure is limited and you shouldn't count on stable fiber, and on the islands everything drops a notch. Watch out for the "included" wifi at guesthouses and condos too — it's usually one line shared across many rooms and it dies mid video call. Run a speed test YOURSELF, in your actual room, in the evening, before signing anything. In the rainy season storms knock the service out now and then.
CoworkingCoworking
Be honest with yourself: Krabi is not a coworking town. In Krabi Town and Ao Nang the scene is small and unstable — little spaces open and close with the season, and there's none worth naming to you — so most people end up working from specialty cafés (coffee ≈US$2-3, A/C and a plug) or from their own place on home fiber, which is the most reliable option. If a real space matters to you, the province's known nomad coworking is on Koh Lanta — KoHub — about 2-3 hours away by road plus a vehicle ferry crossing: that's where there's actual community, desks and people working seriously. Budget around US$100-180 a month for a pass — pricing moves often — and confirm in advance that the place is still open and which months it operates, since several close during the rains.
Krabi Town (Mueang Krabi) is where you live cheap and local: markets, hospital, banks, the riverfront, rents at half the price and no beach; the airport is ~20 minutes away. Ao Nang is the beach strip and where nearly every long-stay foreigner ends up: restaurants, gyms, shops and the biggest supply of furnished apartments, but it's touristy, pricier and very seasonal. Nong Thale and Klong Muang, to the north, are the quiet, residential option — houses and villas, nature, zero noise — at the cost of depending entirely on a scooter. Railay and Tonsai are gorgeous and the heart of the climbing scene, but they're boat-access only with no road: great for a holiday, not as a work base. And if you want the version of this province with an actual nomad community, that's Koh Lanta, not the city.
ComunidadCommunity
You're not walking into a ready-made group here. The foreign community exists but it's a different kind: climbers in Railay and Tonsai (that circle is genuinely easy to enter — show up at the wall and you've met ten people), divers, tourism business owners and long-stay retirees. Formal nomad meetups barely exist; what works is the Krabi expat Facebook groups, the Muay Thai gym, and becoming a regular at one café. Spanish-speaking community: close to none — expect to go months without speaking Spanish. In Ao Nang and anything tourist-facing, English is plenty; in Krabi Town, at markets and for paperwork, Thai helps enormously and people are patient but English drops off fast. If you're an introvert, Krabi is paradise; if you need people to stay sane, you'll feel lonely.
Three things a friend tells you and a brochure doesn't. One: the season runs everything. November to April is dry, packed and expensive; May to October brings the southwest monsoon (September and October are the worst of it), rents drop a lot, but businesses close in Ao Nang and Railay, island ferries get cut back and some days you just don't go out. Decide which side you want. Two: the scooter. There's no real public transport — only songthaews between Krabi Town and Ao Nang, plus pricey taxis — so you'll ride a scooter daily, and motorbike accidents are by far the biggest risk here, far more than crime (Krabi is calm on that front). Wear a helmet, check that your insurance actually covers riding and that your license is valid (most policies won't cover you without a motorcycle entitlement), and NEVER leave your passport as a deposit at a rental shop: inflated scratch claims are a known problem in Thailand's tourist areas. Three: the visa. Thailand changes the rules often — the tourist stamp and its length have swung between 30 and 60 days within a few years — and since mid-2024 there's the DTV (Destination Thailand Visa), aimed at nomads and freelancers, with long stays per entry and a bank-funds requirement. Don't take my word for it: verify current days, cost and requirements with the Thai embassy or Immigration before you book a flight. One more: in the lease, ask what they charge per electricity unit (many landlords bill well above the official rate, and A/C is what blows up the bill), and get the high-season monthly price in writing too.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
