Jiayuguan

Jiayuguan es una ciudad del corredor de Hexi, en la provincia de Gansu, al noroeste de China, y su nombre es sinónimo de un lugar mítico: el paso de Jiayu, el extremo occidental de la Gran Muralla Ming. Aquí la muralla muere en un fortín de adobe entre el desierto de Gobi y las nieves de los montes Qilian: era la última puerta del imperio, la frontera con el vacío de la Ruta de la Seda. Es también una ciudad siderúrgica moderna, seca y ventosa, a más de 1.600 m de altitud, con inviernos gélidos y veranos cortos.Jiayuguan is a city on the Hexi Corridor, in Gansu province, northwestern China, and its name is synonymous with a mythic place: the Jiayu Pass, the western end of the Ming Great Wall. Here the wall dies in a rammed-earth fort between the Gobi Desert and the snows of the Qilian Mountains: it was the empire's last gate, the frontier with the emptiness of the Silk Road. It's also a modern steel city, dry and windy, above 1,600 m altitude, with freezing winters and short summers.
