Gómel

Gómel es la segunda ciudad de Bielorrusia, en el sudeste del país, a orillas del río Sozh y cerca de las fronteras con Ucrania y Rusia. Su joya es el conjunto del Palacio Rumyántsev-Paskévich y su gran parque sobre el río: un palacio neoclásico, una catedral, una torre-mirador y jardines que bajan hacia el Sozh. Its jewel is the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace complex and its large park above the river: a neoclassical palace, a cathedral, a lookout tower and gardens sloping down to the Sozh. It's an industrial and university city, orderly and green, little visited by Western travellers. It lies relatively near the Chernobyl-affected zone to the south, though the city itself is outside the restricted areas.
