Guanare es la capital del estado Portuguesa, en los Llanos del occidente de Venezuela. Fundada en 1591, es una de las ciudades coloniales del llano y, sobre todo, el gran centro religioso del país: aquí se venera a la Virgen de Coromoto, patrona de Venezuela, cuya aparición se sitúa en estas tierras. Portuguesa es el 'granero' agrícola del país, con arroz y maíz hasta el horizonte, y un clima cálido de sabana.Guanare is the capital of Portuguesa State, in the plains (Llanos) of western Venezuela. Founded in 1591, it's one of the colonial towns of the flatlands and, above all, the country's great religious center: this is where the Virgin of Coromoto, patroness of Venezuela, is venerated, her apparition placed in these lands. Portuguesa is the nation's agricultural 'granary,' with rice and corn to the horizon, and a hot savanna climate.
