Elbląg es una ciudad hanseática del norte de Polonia, en la región de Warmia-Masuria, cerca de la laguna del Vístula y del Báltico. Its old town, flattened in 1945, has been rebuilt with an odd but appealing mix of historic gables and modern architecture. What makes it unique, though, is the Elbląg Canal: a 19th-century waterway where boats are hauled up and down hills on rolling cradles pulled by cables instead of locks. It's one of Europe's most unusual feats of river engineering.
