Chittagong (Chattogram) is Bangladesh's second city and main port, at the mouth of the Karnaphuli River on the Bay of Bengal. It's a bustling, industrial and commercial port city ringed by green hills that set it apart from the flat delta of the rest of the country. To the north, at Sitakunda, are the famous ship-breaking yards where huge vessels are dismantled right on the beach. It's also the gateway to the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the mountainous region of indigenous peoples to the southeast.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Chittagong? How much do you need per month in Chittagong?
Chittagong (Chattogram) is Bangladesh's port city and second-largest urban area: genuinely cheap, chaotic, and with essentially no nomad scene. It works if you have a concrete reason to be here — port, shipping, garments, NGO work — or if you want a deeply immersive, very cheap life with the Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox's Bazar within reach. It does not work as a remote base you'd pick for fun: power cuts, a track record of country-wide internet shutdowns, brutal humid heat, nightmare traffic, and zero community of people working online. A note on the numbers: the taka has depreciated a lot and local inflation runs high, so the USD figures below are order of magnitude, not a price list — confirm them on arrival.

Si tu trabajo exige estar conectado a una hora fija, este no es un sitio donde puedas prometer disponibilidad sin plan B.Home fiber is dirt cheap and good enough in the better areas (Khulshi, Nasirabad, the GEC area): ≈US$8–15/month for plans sold in practice as 10, 20 or 30 Mbps from national ISPs like Link3, Amber IT or Carnival. Don't expect Eastern-Europe numbers: what you buy is local bandwidth, evenings get congested on international traffic and you will feel it, and upload is usually the weak link for video calls. The real problem isn't speed, it's infrastructure. Load shedding still happens, especially in summer, and without a UPS or inverter you drop out of the meeting mid-sentence. The submarine cables feeding the country land on this coast, so a cut or maintenance window drags half of Bangladesh down with it. And the serious one: there's a track record of shutting off mobile data or the whole network for political reasons — it happened at scale in 2024 — and no fiber plan fixes that. Grameenphone or Robi 4G works decently and costs almost nothing, so keep it as a permanent backup (you need passport and visa to register the SIM). Install a VPN before you arrive. If your job requires being online at a fixed hour, this isn't a place where you can promise availability without a plan B.
CoworkingCoworking
There's basically no scene. Chittagong has startups and the odd space tied to an incubator or university, but nothing like a nomad coworking in Bali or Medellín, and I won't name places I can't confirm are open and stable today — if someone gives you one, verify it before you count on it. In practice you work from home, from cafés around GEC Circle and Khulshi, or from the lobby or restaurant of a good hotel (the Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View is the one business travelers use). Note that hotels here don't sell monthly desk memberships, so whatever you spend is food, drinks or a meeting room by the hour — budget it as leisure, not a fixed fee. Prioritize an apartment with a real desk and backup power: that's worth more here than any coworking.
Khulshi is THE area: elevated, green, quieter, and home to the city's small foreign population (shipping, garments, NGOs, a few consulates). Nasirabad and the GEC Circle area are the next tier — more central, more restaurants and services, also more noise and traffic. Panchlaish and the streets around O. R. Nizam Road are upper-middle-class Bengali residential with good value for money. Agrabad is the port-linked commercial and office core: handy if you work there, but among the first places to flood when it rains hard. If you want space and air and don't mind depending on a car, Bhatiary, out north among the hills.
ComunidadCommunity
Honesto: aquí no hay comunidad nómada. Cero. Straight up: there's no nomad community here. None. There is a foreign population, but it's corporate — shipping, garment and NGO expats — and it moves in closed circuits: private clubs, dinners at people's homes, the Bhatiary golf club. Arrive with no local job or contacts and you'll be fairly alone, and there's no weekly meetup to fix that. That said, Bengali hospitality is real: people invite you for tea and into their homes fast, and that counts for a lot. English works with the professional and university crowd; daily street life runs on Bengali and on Chittagonian, a local speech even people from Dhaka don't fully follow. Learn greetings and numbers and your experience changes. Spanish speakers: practically none.
Visa: Bangladesh has no nomad visa. Tourist entry is typically 30 days (some nationalities get more, and visa on arrival exists in certain cases, but it depends on your passport — check with your consulate, not a blog). Extensions mean immigration offices and patience; working remotely from here is a grey area, so don't advertise it. Monsoon June to September: it rains seriously and Chittagong genuinely floods — knee-deep water in Agrabad, Halishahar, Chawkbazar. Rent on high ground; there's a reason Khulshi is Khulshi. Bay of Bengal cyclones, mainly April–May and October–November: there's a warning system, take it seriously. Humid heat from April to June that flattens you, and AC blows up the power bill exactly when the grid is least reliable. Winter air quality is bad (less than Dhaka, but bad). Alcohol is restricted — essentially licensed hotel bars only, and expensive; this is not a nightlife city. Traffic: short distances, absurd travel times — live near where you need to be rather than saving on rent and paying in hours. Rentals: expect a large upfront deposit (two or three months, sometimes more), often no formal contract, and a foreigner price; get the terms in writing and never pay a year ahead. The country has carried political instability since 2024, and strikes (hartal) or protests can shut down a whole day, sometimes with mobile internet cut: keep food, battery and flexibility. And the city is conservative — dressing modestly saves friction, especially for women.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
