Cabimas es la ciudad del petróleo venezolano. Está en la orilla oriental del Lago de Maracaibo, en el estado Zulia, y aquí, en 1922, reventó el pozo Barroso II lanzando crudo durante días: el episodio que arrancó de verdad la era petrolera del país. It sits on the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo in Zulia state, and here, in 1922, the Barroso II well blew out, spewing crude for days: the moment that truly launched the country's oil era. It's a hot, humid, flat city, with drilling rigs standing in the lake itself and an identity shaped top to bottom by black gold.
