Batumi
Aprox. 121,806 habitantesApprox. 121,806 people
Batumi is Georgia's Black Sea resort city and the capital of subtropical Adjara. It's a strange, addictive contrast: casino towers and glass hotels standing right next to an old town of cobbled lanes and Adjaran courtyards. Summer packs it out for the pebble beaches and the long seaside boulevard; the rest of the year it's quiet and cheap. Georgia lets many nationalities stay visa-free for up to a year, so a steady digital-nomad community has settled in.
Mejor épocaBest time
June to September for beach and buzz, though that's the priciest and busiest stretch. May and October are milder and cheaper. Winter is rainy but mild thanks to the subtropical climate.
PresupuestoBudget
Georgia is one of the cheapest spots in the region. A nomad lives comfortably on 800–1,300 USD/month; local food and wine cost very little once you step away from the beachfront tourist strip.
EntradaEntry
Georgia lets citizens of many countries (including most of Latin America and the EU) enter visa-free and stay up to 365 days. Confirm your nationality's terms before you travel.
The center and boulevard are walkable or bikeable. Cheap marshrutkas (minibuses) and Bolt taxis cover the rest. For trips into the Adjaran mountains, rent a car or hire a driver.

It stands on the boulevard and is the city's symbol.
A 130 m tower shaped like a double helix wrapped in the letters of the Georgian alphabet, a nod to national pride in the country's unique script. There's a viewing deck up top.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Batumi? How much do you need per month in Batumi?
Batumi works if you want low costs by European standards, the sea, and an unusually long legal stay: Georgia lets passports from most of Latin America, the EU, Spain and the US in visa-free for a full year (check yours on the official list before booking). What people leave out is that it's a city split into two seasons: June to September fills with tourists and rents jump; October to May it's cheap, very rainy and half-empty. If you want a big nomad scene with weekly meetups and year-round buzz, Tbilisi will serve you far better — Batumi is for spending little, having a beach, and being left alone.

Georgia punches way above its price on connectivity. Home fiber comes mainly from Magti (Magticom) and Silknet: a ≈100 Mbps residential plan runs about ≈US$10–20/month and holds up fine for video calls. Mobile data is excellent and dirt cheap, with solid 4G across the city; there's 5G in some areas, but don't build your work setup around it. One genuinely good point: Georgia has no internet censorship or site blocking, so you only need a VPN if your employer requires one. The weak link isn't the network, it's the building: in half-occupied new towers the internal wiring is sometimes improvised, and winter storms bring short power or water cuts. Always ask which provider actually reaches THAT unit, run a speed test before signing, and keep mobile data as backup.
CoworkingCoworking
Batumi's coworking scene is small and seasonal: a handful of real spaces, mostly between the old town and the boulevard, packed in summer and running short hours — or closed — in winter. I won't make up names; places open, change hands and shut fast, so find them once you're there, through Batumi nomad groups on Telegram or Facebook. A monthly hot desk runs roughly ≈US$80–150, with a lot of variation between spaces. In practice a lot of people just work from cafés: there's a solid specialty-coffee culture with wifi and outlets, and it's cheaper. If you need a serious office plus midweek community and events, that lives in Tbilisi, not here.
New Boulevard — where most foreigners end up: new furnished towers, many with sea views, right by the beach, and the best supply of monthly rentals. Old Batumi — the prettiest and most walkable, cafés and restaurants at your door; older buildings and fairly loud terraces late into summer nights. Khimshiashvili Avenue — the corridor running parallel to the coast between the center and the new boulevard: good price-to-location ratio, a mix of locals and newcomers. Gonio and Kvariati — beach villages about 15–20 minutes south toward the Turkish border: quieter, greener and cheaper outside summer, but you depend on the bus or a car, and in winter they're close to dead.
ComunidadCommunity
Meeting people is easy in summer and real work in winter — this is about the most seasonal city you'll find. The foreign community is mostly Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian (a huge influx since 2022), plus Turks because the border is right there; Spanish speakers are very few, so if you came hoping to speak Spanish you'll be fairly alone. Daily language is Georgian; Russian is understood almost everywhere and unlocks the most with landlords and at the market, though since 2022 some people would rather not use it — open in English and switch only if they do. English works fine in cafés, coworkings and tourist areas, less so with landlords. Meetups exist but are irregular and get organized on Telegram and Facebook rather than event platforms. Real tip: if you're wintering here, arrive in autumn and build your circle before the city empties out.
Season is everything. A lease signed in January can end with your landlord asking you to leave — or hiking the price hard — when June arrives. Get dates and price IN WRITING covering the whole summer, and mind the currency: many landlords quote in dollars even though you pay in lari, so pin down which currency and at what rate. It rains a lot: Batumi is subtropical and one of Georgia's rainiest cities, peaking in autumn and winter; summer is humid and sticky, winter is grey and windy more than cold, and that damp means mold — check walls and windows before signing. Noise and construction: the center in summer means parties, casinos and weekend tourism until late, and there are towers going up year-round — ask for a high floor away from the site. Ghost towers: many buildings were sold as investments and sit half-empty, with unfinished common areas, slow elevators or patchy water pressure; view the unit in person or on video, never from photos alone. Visa and taxes: the visa-free year covers most Latin American and European passports, but confirm yours on the official list, and know that 183 days within 12 months can make you a Georgian tax resident. Banking: opening a Georgian bank account as a foreigner has gotten picky depending on nationality; don't count on it for month one. Safety and health: crime isn't your problem here (Georgia is one of the safest countries in the region); traffic is — people drive aggressively. And for anything medically serious people end up going to Tbilisi or crossing into Turkey, so carry real insurance from day one.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
