Azcapotzalco es una de las alcaldías del norte de la Ciudad de México, con una historia muy anterior a la propia Tenochtitlan: fue la capital del señorío tepaneca, la potencia dominante del valle de México antes del ascenso mexica. Su nombre viene del náhuatl y suele traducirse como "en el hormiguero". Hoy es una demarcación densa, trabajadora e industrial, marcada durante décadas por la refinería 18 de Marzo, hoy reconvertida en el Parque Bicentenario. No es una zona turística clásica, pero tiene raíces prehispánicas, parques notables y buena conexión con el resto de la capital.Azcapotzalco is one of the boroughs of northern Mexico City, with a history far older than Tenochtitlan itself: it was the capital of the Tepanec dominion, the power that ruled the Valley of Mexico before the rise of the Mexica. Its name comes from Nahuatl and is usually translated as "place of the anthills." Today it's a dense, working, industrial borough, long marked by the 18 de Marzo oil refinery, now converted into the Parque Bicentenario. It's not a classic tourist area, but it has pre-Hispanic roots, notable parks and good connections to the rest of the capital.
