Vaduz is a tiny capital in the Rhine valley, dominated by the princely castle and surrounded by vineyards, museums and mountains. For a first reading, connect Städtle, Mitteldorf, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Schlossweg viewpoint: art, monarchy and Alpine scenery form a short, precise visit. The castle is a private residence and does not open to visitors; do not inflate the city with sights across Liechtenstein.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Vaduz? How much do you need per month in Vaduz?

Vaduz is not a nomad base, and that's worth saying up front: it's the capital of a country of about 40,000 people that negotiated a permanent exemption from EEA free movement and issues only a few dozen residence permits a year, some of them by lottery. The people who actually live here work in private banking, trust and fund services, or industry (Hilti, Ivoclar, Thyssenkrupp Presta), and more than half of the country's workforce doesn't even live in it — they commute in from Switzerland or Austria every morning. As a nomad you can spend your 90 Schengen days and work remotely with zero technical friction, but there's no scene, monthly rentals barely exist, and you pay Swiss prices in a village of roughly 5,700 that shuts down early.

You won't have a technical complaint here: Liechtenstein has some of the best fiber coverage in the world, and a few-hundred-meg to gigabit line at home in Vaduz runs ≈US$70–100 a month. Mobile is solid across the Rhine valley on 4G/5G (FL1/Telecom Liechtenstein and Salt both operate here); it drops in patches going up toward Malbun. No censorship, no blackouts, no network cuts — one of the most boring places on earth in that respect, which is the point. The one real catch is roaming: the country is EEA, so an EU SIM should work at domestic rates, but you're right on the border and your phone latches onto Swiss towers across the Rhine — and Switzerland is not an EU roaming zone. That's where the surprise bills come from: lock the network manually or buy a local SIM.

CoworkingCoworking

There is no coworking scene in the nomad sense. What exists is business infrastructure: there's a technopark-style initiative in Vaduz that works as a hub for companies and startups with offices and flexible space (check it's still running, and on what terms, before you count on it), and the University of Liechtenstein keeps some life in the center. But it's a local corporate ecosystem, not a place you walk into with a laptop to find community. In practice people work from their office or from home, and anyone who really wants coworking crosses to Buchs, Sargans or St. Gallen in Switzerland, or Feldkirch in Austria — all 15–45 minutes away. Work-friendly cafes are few and close early.

Vaduz's Stadtle and Mitteldorf are the center: the pedestrian street, the castle above, the banks and the museums. It's the most "urban" thing here and it's still a village. Schaan, right to the north, is the largest municipality, with much of the industry and the Schaan-Vaduz train stop; a lot of skilled staff live there. Triesen and Balzers, to the south, are residential, a bit cheaper and family-heavy. And the uncomfortable truth: many people who work in Vaduz live across the border in Buchs SG (Switzerland) or Feldkirch (Austria), because that's where apartments are actually available, cheaper, and 15–25 minutes away.

ComunidadCommunity

The foreign community is proportionally huge — roughly a third of the country's population — but it's corporate, not nomadic: bankers, trust lawyers, German, Swiss and Austrian engineers, industrial workers, and students at the University of Liechtenstein. You meet people through work or through the Vereine, the local clubs (choir, shooting, football, alpine), which is literally how social life works here; without that you can go months without making a friend. The language is German in a fairly thick Alemannic dialect: the office and the bank will switch to English, but daily life and any real integration happen in German. For a night out, people drive to Feldkirch or St. Gallen.

There is no digital nomad visa or anything close, and that's the real wall: Liechtenstein is in the EEA but negotiated a permanent exemption from free movement of people, so not even an EU citizen can simply move here. A few dozen residence permits are issued per year, part of them assigned by lottery and the rest tied to a local employer. Without a permit your ceiling is Schengen — 90 days in any 180, and it doesn't get extended because you liked the place. Add that rental housing is extremely scarce and in practice goes to people who already live and work in the country: as a nomad your real cost isn't the table above, it's a hotel, so treat those figures as a resident's reference rather than your budget. Watch the transport too: the Schaan-Vaduz stop sees very few trains a day, the LIEmobil bus is the actual transport, and your airport is Zurich — ≈1h15 by car or by train via Sargans/Buchs — because there isn't one here. The rest is easy: Swiss francs, cards and banking with zero friction, no sanctions, total safety. Come planning weeks, not a move.

Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
