Pyongyang

Pyongyang is the capital of North Korea, on the banks of the Taedong River. It's one of the hardest cities on earth to visit: you enter only on organized, guided tours with no freedom to wander on your own, and since 2020 the borders have been largely closed to tourism. What you'll see is a monumental, planned capital: wide avenues, ceremonial squares and architecture built to serve the state. This is no digital-nomad spot; it's an exceptional, tightly controlled trip.

Mejor épocaBest time

Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are mildest; the continental winter is bitterly cold and summer brings monsoon rains. Tours often line up with dates on the official calendar.

EntradaEntry

Entry is only via a visa arranged through an authorized agency and a guided tour; U.S. citizens have been banned from traveling here. Check the current status before considering anything.

You don't move around alone: guides accompany you at all times. The Pyongyang Metro, extremely deep with heavily decorated stations, is a regular stop on the tour.
