Nassau
Aprox. 227,940 habitantesApprox. 227,940 people
Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, occupies New Providence island and lives turned toward the Caribbean. It's the classic British colonial port turned cruise-and-resort destination: Bay Street with its pastel Georgian buildings, colonial forts on the hills and, across the water, the overflowing Paradise Island with the Atlantis mega-resort. It blends white-sand beaches and turquoise water with pirate history and easygoing island life. It's touristy and at times packed with cruise passengers, but easy, sunny and with postcard escapes just around the corner.

PresupuestoBudget
Expensive: the Bahamas import almost everything, so food and lodging run high. Paradise Island resorts are upscale; downtown Nassau has somewhat more affordable options.

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Nassau? How much do you need per month in Nassau?
Nassau works if you arrive with solid dollar income and want beach, a New York time zone, and paperwork in English without leaving the Caribbean: the Bahamian dollar is pegged 1:1 to the USD, so you never do the mental conversion. Language is the catch in reverse — daily life runs in English and the Spanish-speaking community is small, so if English isn't comfortable you'll feel it from your first errand. And it does not work as a cheap base: almost everything is imported with duty, rent and electricity are priced like an expensive US city, and the classic nomad infrastructure (coworkings, meetups, cheap eats) barely exists. If your budget is US$1,500 a month, this island isn't your base.

Real fiber exists on New Providence: BTC and Cable Bahamas (REV brand) sell plans that in practice run from around 30 to 200+ Mbps depending on what you pay — plenty for video calls all day. The problem isn't speed, it's price (≈US$80–130/month for what costs a third of that in Mexico or Spain) and power: BPL outages in summer are a real, recurring thing, so if you work with clients keep a UPS or battery for the router and mobile data as backup — that's not paranoia, it's standard practice here. Mobile 4G/5G coverage across Nassau island is good; out on the cays and Family Islands it drops off fast. No censorship or blocking: you won't need a VPN for anything beyond your own reasons.
CoworkingCoworking
Nassau's coworking scene is thin — don't compare it to Mexico City or Lisbon. Small spaces have opened and closed, so I'd rather not hand you names that may already be gone: check what's actually open the month you land and go see it before paying for a full month. When you find one, a monthly desk runs roughly ≈US$150–300, but confirm on site — supply is small and pricing isn't standardized. The reality is most people work from home, from a hotel lobby or café on Cable Beach / Paradise Island, or from downtown coffee shops. If you need an office with people around you every day, this city will frustrate you.
Cable Beach is the obvious bet: beach, hotels, supermarkets and restaurants within reach, and where mid-stay foreigners cluster. Sandyport, right next to Cable Beach, is a gated canal-front development — quiet and safe, a favorite with families and expats — but pricey, and you'll basically need a car. Paradise Island is comfortable and pretty but expensive and isolated: you live inside a resort bubble and crossing the bridge for every errand gets old. Downtown / Palmdale is the cheapest and most central option with real local life, but quality varies street by street — go see the place in person, day and night, before you sign. And the Eastern Road corridor, heading east, is residential and calm if you want more space for your money, at the cost of depending on a car.
ComunidadCommunity
Daily life runs in English (the Bahamian dialect clicks fast), so if you speak it you're in from day one. If you don't, there's no large Spanish-speaking cushion here: the biggest foreign community is Haitian, not Latin American, and Spanish will get you almost nowhere. The nomad crowd is small and turns over fast, so don't expect a meetup calendar — social life happens through work, the gym, water sports, church, and the boating and expat circles around Cable Beach and Sandyport. People are warm and you can meet them, but you have to go looking; it doesn't come to you like in Medellín or Bali.
Four friend-to-friend things. One, cost: almost everything arrives by ship with duty on it, so groceries will sting and a summer electricity bill with A/C running can top US$300 — budget more than you think, and ALWAYS ask whether rent includes power, because it changes the number completely. Two, safety varies by area: Nassau is a normal tourist destination in the neighborhoods you'd actually live in, but violence concentrates in specific areas (the district known as Over-the-Hill and parts of the south and southwest of the island); check your country's current travel advisory and, above all, pick your neighborhood with your own eyes, not from an Airbnb photo. Three, paperwork and weather: a tourist stamp doesn't let you work legally for local clients; the country's nomad permit (BEATS) runs around US$1,000 a year plus processing, but figures and requirements change — confirm them at the official source before you book a flight. And June through November is hurricane season: get insurance that covers evacuation, and don't sign a year lease without reading what happens if a storm hits. Four, getting around: there's no Uber. They drive on the LEFT, but nearly all cars are imported from the US with the steering wheel on the left too, which is genuinely disorienting for the first few days. The jitney is dirt cheap but stops running early and doesn't go everywhere, and taxis are expensive, meterless, and priced by official zones — agree the fare BEFORE you get in.
Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
