Dublín

Aprox. 1,024,027 habitantesApprox. 1,024,027 people

Dublin is small, gray and charming: pubs with live music, literature everywhere (Joyce, Wilde, Beckett) and a warmth that adopts you by the first pint. Rainy and with a serious caveat — the housing crisis made it very pricey — but it's a tech hub and one of Europe's friendliest, most sociable cities.

Costo de vida nómadaNomad cost of living

¿Cuánto necesitas al mes en Dublín?How much do you need per month in Dublín?

Dublin is one of the most expensive nomad bases in western Europe, and the price isn't even the hard part — actually finding somewhere to live is. What you get: English all day, gigabit fibre, a huge tech scene (Google, Meta and Stripe all run their European HQs here) and cheap flights to the whole continent. It works if you're earning well — call it US$4,000/month and up — and want to be inside the European startup ecosystem. It doesn't work if you came to stretch a budget, or if six months of grey skies, rain and sunsets just after 4pm would break you.

This is where Dublin wins outright. Fibre (or cable, depending on the street) reaches most of the city and a standard home plan runs 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps with Eir, Virgin Media, Sky or Vodafone for about US$45-70/month; it's stable and video calls are a non-issue. No blackouts or scheduled cuts — the grid is reliable. Mobile 4G/5G coverage is solid across the urban area and along the DART, and a prepaid SIM with a generous data bundle runs ≈US$15-25/month. Two practical catches: home plans are almost always 12-month minimum contracts, so if you're short-term you want a flat where broadband is already included, and getting fibre installed in a new place can take a couple of weeks. Ask whether the line is already live before you sign.

CoworkingCoworking

The scene is one of Europe's more mature ones thanks to the size of the local tech sector, ranging from startup hubs to corporate buildings selling loose desks. Dogpatch Labs, in the CHQ building in the IFSC, is the reference startup hub and hosts a lot of the events; The Tara Building, next to Tara Street, is the more creative, community-heavy option. Iconic Offices runs several locations around the centre, and the big international operators are here too. A monthly hot desk runs about US$280-400, and a private office climbs fast. If you're planning to work from cafés, note that many restrict laptops at peak times and weekends — don't make it your main plan.

Portobello, along the Grand Canal, is the classic pick: young, international, café-heavy, 15 minutes' walk to the centre. Rathmines, right behind it, is bigger and a bit cheaper — 30-35 minutes on foot, 10-15 by bike. Stoneybatter, north of the river, is the "cool" neighbourhood of low red-brick houses, old pubs and new bars, right beside Phoenix Park. Ranelagh is leafier and more residential, on the Luas green line, and pricier for it. Grand Canal Dock and the Docklands are modern apartments next to the tech offices — practical and soulless, but they kill the commute if your life is office-shaped. On a tighter budget, Phibsborough and Drumcondra are better value and still easy by bike; the city is flat and very cycleable, with decent lanes along the canals.

ComunidadCommunity

Meeting people is easy and language is no barrier: everything runs in English, and the Irish are among the most talkative people anywhere, especially in the pub — the city's actual social centre. There's a big international crowd (Brazilians and Spaniards through the English schools, Latin Americans and Indians through tech) and product/AI/startup meetups most weeks, many of them free. The downside: it's a transient city, people leave every year or two, and breaking into lifelong Irish friend groups takes longer than you'd expect. Your first circle will be other foreigners, and that's fine.

The thing you actually need to know: Ireland has been in a housing crisis for years and finding a rental is a contact sport. Listings on Daft.ie last hours, twenty people show up to a viewing, and plenty of landlords want Irish references and proof of local employment — which a nomad doesn't have. Budget for two or three weeks of paid accommodation and hunt from there, and distrust anyone asking for a deposit before you've seen the place: the "landlord is abroad" scam is relentless. Two real shortcuts: rent-a-room arrangements (you live in the owner's house) are plentiful and cheaper, while short-term furnished lets aimed at foreigners are priced well above market. Second: Ireland has NO digital nomad visa, and it isn't in Schengen, so its entry rules are separate from the EU's. Several Latin Americans (Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil) enter visa-free as tourists for up to 90 days, but other nationalities need a visa in advance — check yours on the Irish immigration site — and remember tourist status is not permission to work locally. Third: the weather. It rains lightly but constantly, and in December it's dark by just after 4pm; the winter slump is real. On safety, Dublin is generally fine, but the north inner city around O'Connell Street gets anti-social at night, and bike theft and street phone-snatching are common — good lock, and don't walk around with your phone out. And mind the exchange rate: everything here is charged in euros, so the dollar figures are conversions and they move.

Figures in US dollars and approximate, reviewed in September 2026, for one person. Rents move fast in nomad-heavy cities — use these to compare and budget, not as a quote.
